The Little Angels Club
Keshia Roberts, Director
The Little Angels Club is
a non profit organization whose purpose is to increase community awareness
pertaining to children's
health and safety issues.
History
The Little Angels Club was
founded in March 1995 by Keshia Roberts. Her daughter, Kiara, was her inspiration
and is the co-founder of the organization.
The idea was to have a youth
organization that would benefit boys and girls in the Humboldt area and
the surrounding towns.
Mrs. Roberts saw that children
in the larger cities had access to various programs so she wanted to simulate
those programs for her community.
It started out with just
a newsletter printed for the children and a few meetings. As time progressed,
the organization started having regular meetings and had
guest speakers that delivered
positive and motivational messages. With the support of the parents and
the community, the club began to grow.
Past Events
Heroes of West TN
Local policemen, firemen
and other emergency personnel came together to discuss
their occupations, good
safety practices and display their emergency vehicles.
Culture Day
Participants from different
cultures discussed their backgrounds, languages, etc. with the group.
Community Bicycle Rodeos
In 2002, LAC hosted Humboldt's
First Community Bicycle Rodeo.
125 children received free
bicycle helmets and information about safety issues.
April 19, 2003, LAC held
the second Bicycle Rodeo and it was more successful than the first!
Rep. Chris Crider joined
us as guest speaker for the event.
The Trenton and Humboldt
Police Department assisted us with the obstacle course.
Jim Dandy and Craig Stevens
of the Diamond Jaxx also added fun to the event for the children.
Booster Seat Giveaway
On March 15, 2003,
LAC hosted a Booster Seat Giveaway. Wal Mart of Humboldt was kind enough
to allow us to hold the event
on their parking lot and
assisted with donations as well!
United Way of West TN donated
the booster seats to make this event possible.
Also the Booster Seat Checkers
form our local Health Departments were there to properly install the seats
and check vehicles
that already had a seat
in them.
The Booster Seat Checkers
installed 57 booster seats and LAC distributed 200 booster seats to needy
families!
Kids Kraze
(sponsored by Sports Plus
Dyersburg)
At the Kids Kraze event in
Dyersburg, LAC distributed 141 bicycle helmets and actually ran out before
the event ended.
